Tuesday 10th September – Windsurf *** The River Orwell at Levington – cloudy with some light rain.

Foil – 17.69 knot max, 16.17 knot ave, 8.81 knot hour, 13.05 knot mile, 26.65 km., 14.54 knot alpha.

Starboard Freeride 150 and a Severne 1000 with a Tushingham Bolt 5.5.

With a good wind from the wsw forecast but cloudy with some light rain my only option was the River Orwell at Levington Marina. Low water was around ten so I had time to do my exercises before heading over arriving at the marina at 10.40 in light rain, not very tempting either, didn’t look overly windy on the river and the tide was very low but you c ould launch easily from the marina entrance! I sat in the van for awhile as the rain cleared but it was still gloomy but I set up the foil board and took it down to the eaters edge, sail choice was harder, I was getting gusts to around 18 knots so took a chance with my 5.5, to be fair whatever sail I rigged today would not have been perfect as this is a very gusty direction here:( Launching at 11/20 I was out in deep water in 8 tacks but I was way under powered to start with, then the wind did fill in, with little wind down towards the docks I slowly beat up river towards Pin Mill getting some OK gybes, one minute you were fighting 25 knots the next you were struggling to fly in 10 knots! Things were going OK until I hit the soft mud, no damage to my kit just me, as I cut my face and broke mt sunglasses so had to continue sailing without them and found that I was OK, my eyesight must be improving! I had a few more nice runs even if on the short side before the wind dropped down so as it was not much fun decided to call it a day and hope tomorrow brings better winds, hopefuly it will as it might be in a better direction, fingers crossed! On the plus side the wildlife was good, spotting diving terns and cormarants, waders feeding in the mud and a couple of egrets for good measure and the shower at the end is always good:)

Walk ** Around Felixstowe – cloudy.

Then home to hear about Mags day, as usual she had been busy sorting out the front garden and we were about to have a relaxing afternoon when our lovely hairdress Sue of over40years arrived to do our hair a day early as she got in a muddle! Still no problems, we had a nice catch up over a cuppa before going round to our old friend Mary so she could have her hair done having a nice chat there too! Then Mag and I walked home the long way, down past Harvest House to the prom and home before the rain arrived once more!
